Hydraulic pressure contol valves

September 23rd, 2011

Pressure-control valves are used in almost every hydraulic system. Hydraulic Pressure Control Valves help in a wide variety of functions, right from keeping system pressures below a desired upper limit to maintaining a set pressure in the entire hydraulic system. Pressure control valves are used to control and regulate pressure in fluid power systems.

In hydraulic systems pressure control valves are used to unload the system and to maintain and regulate pressure at the desired values. There are different types of hydraulic pressure control valves which are normally closed valves, Hydraulic Flow Control Valves except for one or two, which are normally open. For most of these pressure control valves, a restriction is needed to produce the required pressure control.

EBAY WATCH

1969 Lola T70 Mk3B, reserve not met, high bid $132,000: The seller claims this professionally built recreation could be licensed for the street, but it would also make an awesome vintage-racing car. The T70 features a 510-horsepower 356-cubic-inch Chevrolet engine connected to a fivespeed gearbox. Other features include Dunlop racing tires mounted to a set of genuine magnesium wheels. This Lola obviously cost a fortune to build, but the seller might have a difficult time recouping his investment. Visit www.zlmachinery.com

WHAT’S UP, AUTO DOC?
Pipe Clamp , Pipe Clamp , Eyelet Machine , Casting Machines

Does it seem like no matter how hard you try, that darned U-bolt muffler clamp won’t stop the pipe joint from leaking? Here are a couple of tips. When the pipes are apart, put a healthy ring of high-temperature silicone sealant inside the receiver end, just at the point where the tip of the other t where the tip of the other pipe seats. Use two clamps, one positioned a quarter turn from the other (not 180 degrees as you sometimes see). Since clamps are usually bigger than the pipe, doing this will minimize the “egging” created by the first clamp. The best method is to use a band clamp, which is essentially a 15-centimetre-long piece of stainless steel that wraps around the joint and bolts together at the sides. The seal is so tight that a ridge in the clamp forms where one pipe slips over the other (pictured). In many cases, this method is preferable to welding since welding with plain steel rod or wire creates joints that will rust outIf you have a tip, visit www.zlmachinery.com Visit www.ebaymotors.com and use the “contact” form.

Oil Eater Cleaner/Degreaser, about $8, www.oileater.com: This cleaning product consists of a non-toxic, biodegradable formula that breaks down oil and grease deposits, allowing them to be rinsed away without leaving a residue. The manufacturer claims that the water-based, non-flammable Oil Eater contains no harmful petroleumbased solvents or acids so it can safely be deployed on almost any surface, including any surface, including carpets, floor mats and upholstery. The product can even be used on clothing.

Capital spending among service centers is on the increase in 2011, up over 16 percent on average, according to MCN data. The industry’s leading equipment vendors report renewed sales and inquiry activity following two weak years for the U.S. economy.

Herr-Voss Stamco, DoALL, Hypertherm and the Caldwell Group lead their respective categories in the Metal Center News Top 10 Service Center Equipment Brands lists for 2011.

Information for these brand rankings was compiled as part of MCN’s Outlook survey conducted in October and November 2010, as well as the magazine’s December 2010 poll of toll processors. Respondents were given an alphabetical list of the 14 largest companies in each product category with instructions to check all they would endorse and buy from in the future. Respondents also had the opportunity to write in additional company names or brands not on the lists.

The final ranking, based simply on the total number of votes each company received, gives a rough indication of which brands currently command the largest share of mind, and highest levels of customer satisfaction, among service center executives. This methodology does not attempt to rank companies by size or market share, but rather to measure the relative level of brand awareness they have achieved among respondents to MCN’s surveys.

How to Choose Bandsaw Blades

April 24th, 2011

The bandsaw is an extremely useful tool for woodworking, metalworking and many other crafts. It’s a versatile and precise tool that can be found in almost every shop. This saw can be used to cut a number of different materials, but the proper blade must be used. Without the proper blade, the teeth can dull, (www.bimetalsaw.com)damage your material or break. It’s not difficult to choose the right blade for the work you’re doing, so long as you know a few facts. There are five aspects you should consider for your blade: the tooth shape, the tooth set, blade width, teeth per inch and thickness.

Instructions:
Choosing Your Tooth Shape

1、Determine what materials you will be cutting. This is the determining factor in choosing your blade.
2、Choose the regular tooth bandsaw blade if you’re cutting fairly thin materials and when you’re making intricate cuts. This is the most commonly used blade.
3、If you’re cutting soft, non-ferrous plastics, metals or wood you should look into a skip tooth blade. This helps prevent clogging as you cut.
4、For long cuts into thick plastic, metal or wood, a hook tooth blade is useful. The blade is raked forward 10 degrees to help cut at a higher cutting rate.

Choosing Your Tooth Set

1、For cutting thick metal sections on a horizontal machine, or contour cutting and resawing on a vertical machine, choose a raker tooth set. A raker set has one tooth to the right, one to the center and one to the left, repeating in that pattern.
2、For fast, smooth cuts on wood, choose an alternate or straight tooth set. An alternate set has one blade to the left and one to the right, alternating. Double alternate plus raker sets will work to the same effect.
3、For cutting thin sections of pipe, small sheets or other small shapes, choose a wavy tooth set. As the name suggests, this set type has teeth flowing from right to left and back, offset at different angles. This blade is offered in 32 teeth per inch only.

Choosing Bandsaw Blade Width
1、Check the instructions for the bandsaw you’re using. A proper blade width should be indicated.
2、Consider the types of cuts you will be making. The wider the blade (measured from the tips of the teeth to the back of the blade), the straighter your cut must be. The chart indicates the minimum cut radius for various blade widths.
3、If no instructions are available, purchase a blade as wide as the machine will allow for cut-off sawing. This will allow faster feeding of the wood.
4、For contour cutting, choose a blade no wider than the machine allows, but still narrow enough so it can cut the necessary angles.

Bimetal BandSaw Blades , Band Saws For Metal Cutting , Band Saw Machine
Choosing the Correct Teeth Per Inch (TPI)

1、Determine the desired finish quality and feed rate for your cutting. This determines the TPI.
2、For resawing or cutting thick stock (up to 8 inches thick) you should use a coarse tooth blade of 2 to 3 TPI.
3、For thin metals and plastics of under 1/4 inch, use 18 to 32 TPI.
4、Generally,a higher TPI gives a finer but slower cut. For cutting 3/4-inch plywood, a TPI closer to 4 will offer a faster cut, while a TPI closer to 14 will be considerably slower but leave a smoother finish.

Choosing Your Blade Thickness

1/Determine the diameter of your bandsaw’s wheels.

2/Use this chart to determine the proper blade thickness based on your wheel diameter (from ToolCenter.com - see Resources).
4-6 inches: .014 inch
6-8 inches: .018 inch
8-11 inches: .020 inch
11-18 inches: .025 inch
18-24 inches: .032 inch
24-30 inches: .035 inch
30 inches and over: .042 inch, .050 inch, .063 inch

While the thickness chart provides general guidelines, thicker blades suffer more fatigue than thin blades; for cutting lighter material, stick to lighter blades. They will suffer less metal fatigue.
Thin blades, on the other hand, suffer more strain from cutting. When you’re doing light work, a lighter blade will last longer.

11 Tips for Air Compressor Maintenance

March 14th, 2011

Now that you’ve invested in an air compressor to run all of your air tools you’re going to have to learn how to keep it up and running. Because the standard handyman’s air compressors don’t typically require daily upkeep, it’s easy to forget about them and neglect their upkeep. This can be a costly oversight so it’s vital for you to keep an eye on the following maintenance tips.

Maintenance Tip 1: Read and Follow Your Air Compressor’s Manual

Nothing stops an air compressor faster than an owner who doesn’t read the owner’s manual. There’s going to be some simple tips in there for you that will help you to get a nice long life out of your air compressor - simple stuff for you to do that you would never have thought to do unless you read it. Plus, if you don’t follow the rules in your air compressor manual there’s a chance that you’ll void your warranty. That in itself should be enough of an incentive to read the “flipping” manual.

Maintenance Tip 2: Drain The Moisture From The Tanks

The receiver tank collects moisture from the air that it’s compressing - especially if you live in a humid climate. Most tanks have a valve for draining this moisture that accumulates and it’s up to you to make sure that these are drained regularly. Before draining the water you should be sure to release the air pressure from the tanks.

Maintenance Tip 3: Clean Intake Vents

If you force your air compressor to work too hard to intake air you’re losing power on your compression. This will gradually degrade the quality of your tool. Be sure to keep your intake vent as clean as possible and check them regularly especially if you’re working in a dusty or dirty environment.

Maintenance Tip 4: Tighten All Fasteners

Your air compressor’s a running, vibrating engine and it will loosen its screws, nuts and bolts on a regular basis. Be sure to check these periodically and tighten them up if you find any that have jiggled loose.

Maintenance Tip 5: Check Hoses Regularly

Check all your hoses periodically as they are the veins of your air compressor. If they become cracked or corroded they could soon begin to leak and then put undue strain on the rest of your compressor’s components. Be sure to check them and replace them if you find them cracked or damaged.

Maintenance Tip 6: Test the Safety Shutdown System

Your air compressor may have a built in safety shut down. The function of this system is to shut off your compressor if it’s getting too hot, or if the engine’s oil pressure is too low. This test will help you ensure a longer lasting compressor.

Maintenance Tip 7: Check and Change Air Filters As Needed

A filthy air filter is only hurting your air compressor by allowing dirty air from the outside in, plus forcing it to work harder to intake air. Check your filters regularly and change them if you notice a heavy build up of dust and dirt. Change every six months or so if you use it infrequently.

Investment Casting - History and Modern Process Applications

March 14th, 2011

Investment casting is one of the oldest forms of creating precision parts in metal. It is also known as the lost wax method. The process involves creating a wax pattern which is essentially a replica of the desired part in steel. The pattern is encased in a ceramic material and then removed or “lost” through the introduction of heat. The mold will then have molten steel poured into the opening. Once the mold is broken away from the solid steel, the casting is available for use.

The history of this process dates back thousands of years. Originally bees wax was formed into the desired shape and then covered in clay. Metal was melted using bellows and coal fire. The process was used to form shapes such as idols, jewelry, and art. As time progressed, advancements were made in the precision of the materials and processes to the point where extremely predictable results could be achieved. Dentists were some of the first users of investment casting on a more industrial level, utilizing the process to create fillings to be used inside the mouths of patients.

Advancements in the pattern making, wax, refractories, and melting equipment have resulted in processes that can hold extremely tight dimensional properties. Modern investment castings generally hold dimensions that are measured by a few thousandths of an inch per inch. This allows components to be made that often can be used directly from the manufacturer without subsequent machining. Worst cases allow the parts to be near net shape, which minimizes the amount of handling and processing to be completed on the casting. Users of these casting processes can also deploy the process to create parts that can be poured in thousands of different materials including steel, non-ferrous materials, duplex alloys, aluminum, iron, and more.

HongYi: investment casting, investment castings , Metal Castings , Aluminum casting

Applications of investment casting have grown tremendously during modern times. Investment castings are used to create components in aerospace, transportation, material handling, pump and valve, food processing and more. Sculptures and original art also employ investment casting to create a metal version of an artist creation. Investment casting is also used to create medical implements and components used inside the human body.

The history of investment casting will continually be redefined through the advancement of materials employed in the process. Each passing year has shown that raw materials can be combined in such a manner that results in improvements of process and cost. Investment cast wax, ceramic, and alloys combined with improved equipment to produce castings on a high or low volume basis ensure that the process will be deployed well into the future.

Andy Miller is CEO of Pennsylvania Precision Cast Parts (PPCP), an investment casting and lost wax casting foundry located in Lebanon, PA. PPCP is a non-union enterprise with 175 employees and over $16 Million in casting sales annually.
